Cardiff City boss reveals reason behind rejecting Boro bid for defender

After coming short of his valuation, Middlesbrough are unlikely to get their hands on Cardiff City left-back Ciaron Brown.

Cardiff City boss Mick McCarthy has revealed the reason behind rejecting Middlesbrough's bid for Ciaron Brown, stating that Boro offered less than the player's value.

The 23-year-old was an integral part of the Bluebirds squad towards the end of last season, after the club recalled him from his loan at Scottish side Livingston.

Boro require a left-back to add more depth in that position, and they made a bid for Brown. However, Cardiff City declined the offer because they felt Neil Warnock's side didn't value the player correctly.

Brown is now set to remain at the club once the transfer window closes.

"I turned the offer down. The upshot of that is that Ciaron will stay here," Cardiff City boss Mick McCarthy said.

"I certainly don't want him to go anywhere. I've offered him a deal. I'd like him to stay."

"When someone else comes in, it's always quite exciting as a player, the chance of a move. But there has got to be a right value to it as well, and it wasn't."

Boro are set to miss out on Brown, and they have to look elsewhere to get the player they need for that position. They currently have Marc Bola as the only assured player for the left-back position, with Hayden Coulson as the backup. However, Coulson could join Ipswich Town if another left-back comes in.
